Junior Joana Liu Receives Top Honors for Her Artwork in the HLSR School Art Program

Congratulations to FBCA Junior Joana Liu, who was recently named a 'Top Young Artist’ and her artwork was awarded as a ‘Top Work of Art’ by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Program. Joana Liu was selected along with 72 other students out of 4,000 entries to advance to the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion level of judging. She ranked 25th out of the 72.  Joana and FBCA Art Teacher, Mr. Ryan Baptiste, attended the HLSR School Art Program Awards Ceremony this past Saturday, February 11.
 
Her artwork will now advance to the art auction, which will be held on March 12 at the Hayloft Gallery during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

This year, about 200,000 students participated in the Rodeo’s School Art Program, from 105 public school districts and 59 private schools. Teachers from around the state sent in almost 4,000 pieces of artwork for preliminary judging. The judges selected 809 pieces of artwork to advance to the next round of judging, where 72 students were selected to participate in the School Art Auction on March 12. The artwork is divided into seven categories: colored drawing, mixed media, monochromatic, painting, 3D, elementary and junior high.

Winning artwork will be on display in the Hayloft Gallery, located in the lobby of NRG Center throughout the duration of the 2023 Rodeo.

The Rodeo’s School Art Program promotes an awareness of agriculture, Western heritage and Rodeo activities through artistic competitions for students.
